The Literacy Coalition is wishing Jessica a heartfelt farewell and the best of luck on her journey forward!
Jessica joined our team in 2016 as an AmeriCorps member serving in the Texas Family Literacy AmeriCorps program. She served in our Learning Center, supporting students as they attained their High School Equivalency (HSE/GED). After three years in TFLA, also serving as a Leader in her cohort, Jessica was hired onto the Service Programs staff team as AmeriCorps VISTA Program Manager.
As VISTA Program Manager, Jessica increased the capacity of Texas non-profits by matching VISTA members for roles such as volunteer management, communications and marketing, grant writing, program development and more. Jessica administered the federal VISTA grant the Literacy Coalition receives as a VISTA intermediary organization. What is an intermediary organization? It means that the Literacy Coalition has recruited and placed VISTA members with many partners over the years, enabling them to benefit from a VISTA member’s service, while the Literacy Coalition takes care of all of the management of the program.
In 2022 alone, the Literacy Coalition had 37 TFLA members and 12 AmeriCorps VISTA members serve 76,433 hours across 11 service sites!
Jessica shared that her favorite memories at the Literacy Coalition include The Learning Center graduations, “I love seeing our students complete their HSE, and move on towards higher education or the workforce.”
“Being able to help students, and members experience service, and community engagement first-hand is something I’ll always cherish!”
Jessica is continuing her journey to support service in Central Texas in her new role as VISTA Program Manager at OneStar Texas.
You will be missed, Jessica! Thank you for being a wonderful team member and changing lives through literacy!
