Join us on Friday, November 8th from 9-11am for a training by the Literacy Coalition Social Services Department on motivational interviewing.
This presentation provides an introduction to the basic concepts and skills of Motivational Interviewing (MI). MI provides and exciting and evidence-based approach to helping clients change behaviors to live more fulfilling lives through focusing on how their goals and values relate to their behaviors. MI achieves this through skills for direct service providers designed to explore ambivalence in changing behavior in a client-focused, strengths-based approach.
Attendees will learn the basic theoretical components of MI along with engaging in opportunities to practice MI skills in a learning-centered environment based on real client scenarios and their own experiences over the course of this 2-hour learning session. Direct services providers will learn how to use MI to reframe their interactions with clients to increase efficiency and effectiveness with their own communication for the benefit of the clients and themselves.
Coffee and a light breakfast will be served.
