In November, the Literacy Coalition held a Speed Interviewing session for our Integrated Education and Training (IET) HVAC students, aimed at improving their skills in the professional field. This practice session not only focused on interview skills, but also provided a unique opportunity for students to converse in English with individuals outside of their usual academic environment.
The program provides adult education and literacy activities for Spanish speakers along with workforce training. In partnership with Austin Career Institute, the Literacy Coalition provides vocational training, career-relevant English as a Second Language, and job preparation and placement services.
The Speed Interviewing session involved the students rotating to each volunteer, answering a variety of job interview questions that they had been practicing in class. This hands-on experience not only allowed them to practice responses but also built their confidence in communicating in English.
We are so proud of our students as they displayed significant improvement in their English speaking skills. We are also elated to announce that these students are graduating next week!
