Introducing our new CEO: Janet Torres
The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Janet Torres as Chief Executive Officer. Please join us in welcoming Janet as the new CEO.
“As the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas celebrates 20 years, there is no better person to lead the coalition into the future than Janet Torres,” said Bryan Lauer, President of the Board of Directors. “Janet is a proven leader with an outstanding track record of public service, business and programmatic acumen, and the ability to bring people together. Janet reflects the organization’s values, and she will help to advance innovation and growth for the Literacy Coalition in the years to come.”
Torres said she is ready to build on the Literacy Coalition’s history and successes.
“I am grateful and excited to be a part of the Literacy Coalition family that includes dedicated students, a network of literacy providers, and community leaders throughout Central Texas. No one should struggle to fill out a job application, complete a job training or GED program, or read to their children. The power of literacy can inspire the world to change and empower families and adults to thrive.”
Janet brings a wealth of experience with over 20 years of public service as a legislative attorney, policy advisor, and has held various senior management positions in government/community engagement with global nonprofits such as the Wildlife Conservation Society, The New York Botanical Garden, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and most recently as Executive Director of The Kindness Campaign.
Torres holds a B.A. in Political Science, Economics and Public Administration from Fordham University, and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
