ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

LEARNING CENTER TUTOR

Assist students to reach their goals of obtaining a High School Equivalency certificate and learn vital math and reading skills by tutoring them in math English, social studies and science. Learn More.

Time commitment: 1-3 hours per week day or evening, ongoing

ESL TEACHER's ASSISTANT

Help instructors by engaging with adult students in small group activities and working one-on-one with individual students at the workplace. Learn more

Time commitment: 1.5 to 3  per week

PARENTING PROGRAM TEACHER ASSISTANT

Help supervise, promote learning, and support a group of young children (18 months-4 years) while parents participate in a parental engagement class. Learn more. 

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, but not required.

Time commitment: 3 hours per week for 14-week semester

EVENT PLANNING VOLUNTEER: READING BETWEEN THE WINES

Reading Between the Wines is our signature annual event and fundraiser. The event features signature pairings of locally produced food and alcoholic beverages and the opportunity to mix and mingle with the “tastemakers” of Austin—all while having fun for a good cause. Join one of our volunteer teams below and help make the event a success! 

Time commitment: 2-4 hours a week, February-November, 2017, and six hours on the day of the event.


ONE-TIME VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

LEARNING CENTER PRESENTER

Present students with a life skill that you excel in that can improve their quality of life and concentration, such as nutrition, meditation, fitness, or your career path. Learn More.

Time commitment: 1 hour per semester

Time commitment: 30 min, Thursday, 8:30-10:30 a.m.  and 30 min, Monday, 6-8 p.m. 

EVENT VOLUNTEER: PLAY AND LEARNING STRATEGIES (PALS) GRADUATION

Volunteer at PAL’s biannual graduation event by helping with set-up, break-down, greeting and directing guests, and assisting with food tables. Learn More. 

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required. Free lunch reception!

Time commitment: 5-6 hours on day of the event

EVENT VOLUNTEER: READING BETWEEN THE WINES

Volunteers at our signature event, help with set-up, break-down, check-in, check-out, greeting our guests and assisting with the silent and live auction. Learn more.

Time commitment: 3-4 hours from noon to midnight during the day of the event

Volunteer Waiver and Release of Liability This Release and Waiver of Liability (the “Release”) is executed on by the Volunteer in favor of Literacy Coalition of Central Texas, a Texas non-profit corporation, and its directors, officers, employees, and agents. The Volunteer desires to work as a volunteer for Literacy Coalition of Central Texas. The Volunteer, on behalf of himself or herself and his or her agents, executors, administrators and assigns (all of whom are included in the use of term “Volunteer” below) does hereby freely, voluntarily, and without duress execute this Release under the following terms: Waiver and Release. Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge and hold Literacy Coalition of Central Texas and its successors and assigns from any and all liability, causes of action, claims and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, including without limitation attorneys’ fees and court costs (collectively, “Claims”), which arise or may hereafter arise from Volunteer's work for Literacy Coalition of Central Texas. Volunteer understands and acknowledges that this Release discharges Literacy Coalition of Central Texas from any Claims that the Volunteer may have against Literacy Coalition of Central Texas with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death or property damage that may result from Volunteer's work for Literacy Coalition of Central Texas, whether caused by the negligence of Literacy Coalition of Central Texas or its officers, directors, employees, agents, volunteers, or otherwise. Volunteer also understands that, except as otherwise agreed to by Literacy Coalition of Central Texas in writing, Literacy Coalition of Central Texas does not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial assistance or other assistance, including but not limited to medical, health, or disability insurance, in the event of injury or illness. Insurance: The Volunteer understands that, except as otherwise agreed to by Literacy Coalition of Central Texas in writing, Literacy Coalition of Central Texas does not carry or maintain health, medical, or disability insurance coverage for any Volunteer. Each volunteer is expected and encouraged to obtain his or her own medical or health insurance coverage. Medical Treatment: Except as otherwise agreed to by Literacy Coalition of Central Texas in writing, Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless Literacy Coalition of Central Texas and its successors and assigns from any and all liability or claims which arise or may hereafter arise on account of any first aid, treatment, or service rendered in connection with Volunteer's work for Literacy Coalition of Central Texas. Photo Release: Volunteer does hereby grant and convey unto Literacy Coalition of Central Texas all rights, title, and interest in any and all photographic images and video or audio recordings made by Literacy Coalition of Central Texas during the Volunteer's work for Literacy Coalition of Central Texas, including, but not limited to, any royalties, proceeds, or other benefits derived from such photographs or recordings. Severability: Volunteer expressly agrees that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the laws of the State of Texas, and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas. Volunteer agrees that in the event that any clause or provision of this release shall be held to be unenforceable, the invalidity of such clause or provision shall not otherwise affect the remaining provisions of this release, and such clause or provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permitted under Texas law. • Waiver and Release of Liability I (and parent/guardian if Volunteer is under 18) have carefully read the above Release and understand and agree with its terms.
