Celebrating Successes: Student Update The Learning Center over image of a pile of GED books

This Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, we’re celebrating a GED student success at The Literacy Coalition!

Christina*’s story is an inspiration, reminding us that persistence and hard work does pay off. Literacy is a powerful tool that opens doors to endless opportunity, as it did for Christina.

Christina joined The Literacy Coalition in 2016 as a student in The Learning Center to earn her GED with the goal of pursuing higher education. Christina has dealt with a multitude of stressors, from familial struggles to past incarceration. Despite all of the challenges and difficult times, Christina stuck with it and successfully earned her GED in May of 2022!

Christina is now enrolled in college and is working to earn a degree in human resources where she would like to give back to this community. She has just finished her first semester with A’s and B’s. Congratulations Christina!

When students come to The Literacy Coalition’s Learning Center in Austin, Texas, they know right away that our teachers are dedicated to their success, no matter how long it takes. With our self-paced, individualized learning plans, consistency and dedication is prized and is the key to our students achieving their goals. As adult learners, GED students juggle many things in their lives – families, jobs, and more. Many of our students have faced trauma, as Christina has, and her success is that much sweeter knowing what she has overcome to be thriving in college today.
