With #GivingTuesday just around the corner, let’s shine light on a staggering statistic: Texas has the fourth-lowest literacy rate in the country – 81.0%, with 19.0% of adults lacking basic prose literacy skills.

But here’s where hope meets action! The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas. This organization is on a mission to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through our literacy services. From free GED classes to vocational training with ESL (English as a Second Language) programs and the innovative Parents and Little Scholars program, the Literacy Coalition is actively fostering change and making a impact on the lives of individuals in Texas.

Breaking Down Barriers with Literacy Services

The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas is committed to breaking down barriers that hinder individuals from reaching their full potential. Through free GED classes, adults are given holistic support as they obtain their high school equivalency. Our vocational training programs with embedded ESL and workforce preparation classes empower individuals to not only enhance their language skills but also acquire the expertise needed to thrive in the workforce.

By providing literacy support to both parents and their children in our family education PALS program, the Literacy Coalition is sowing the seeds of education early on, creating a positive impact that continues throughout generations.

A Call to Action: Giving Tuesday

As we approach Giving Tuesday, let’s seize the opportunity to be a part of this transformative journey. Together, we can change the narrative for the 4.8 million Texans who are in need of our support.

Join hands with the Literacy Coalition this Giving Tuesday. Your contribution will be a catalyst for change, a step towards creating a Texas where literacy is not a privilege but a right, and where education becomes the cornerstone of a brighter future.

Together we can build a community that is 100 percent literate, employable, and self-sufficient!
